George, our guide
Reddish plants marking territories
I got some throat lozenges, so my throat is better now
. Today we had Tok Pisin class in the morning and went for a hike in the afternoon. George was our guide, and explained many things along the way to us such as: slash & burn techniques for gardens, how to make floors out of palms,
wokim suksuk - getting starch from sago palms, and more. We saw many different plants, including the
kakau/cocoa tree, vanilla plant, papaya, bread fruit tree, lemon grass (used for making tea), beetlenut tree, and palm oil tree. We also drank the milk from a
kulau, or young coconut not fully ripened, and ate its "meat", which was softer than ripe coconut - a slightly harder consistency than jello. We saw several small villages, with red plants marking their territory boundaries. We also saw a tarantula on the trail. Tonight for dinner we had sweet & sour crocodile! - Tastes kind of like chicken, but a little fishier. We got to see how the crocodile looks when you get it - whole, without skin, and frozen! I'm very tired - we just had a Discovery team meeting. Bai mi go slip nau!
Thank you, God, for healing my sickness today!
