Date: 6/27/04
Location: Whiteheads' village, Papua New Guinea

Today was Sunday, and this morning we climbed the hill to the local Lutheran village church, about five minutes away. Some of the service was in Tok Pisin, but most was in Tok Ples. Before and after church (and during church some, too), I felt like Julie and I were celebrities. The children gathered around, staring at us and touching Julie's long, blond hair. There is somewhat a "Cargo" mentality here - where "whiteskins" are expected to give things to the nationals. This afternoon, children came to the porch to color drawings of Noah's Ark. Julie and I also went out on the porch and sang some worship songs in Tok Pisin and English with my guitar. This evening, Pat and I worked on figuring out chords for some hymns in Tok Pisin.
